The Plight Of The Urban Sock Monkey
Disappearance Of The Sock Monkey Habitat
Not so long ago groups of wild sock monkeys were free to roam the open plains of the untamed Midwestern region of the United States. But sadly, recent rapid and unchecked increases in television advertising and urban sprawl have put immense pressure on this creature's habitat. A few short years ago the noble sock monkey was most likely to be spotted attending sock monkey tea parties or engaging in spirited games of hide and seek with human children. But now it is far more common to see gangs of teenage sock monkeys hanging out at malls, cursing and smoking.
The Jane Goodmost Sock Monkey Refuge
In 2004 the Jane Goodmost Institute was created to address the problems facing today's sock monkeys. The institute provides a safe habitat for sock monkeys with its recently created Sock Monkey Refuge. Here sock monkeys are protected from the pressures that threaten their existence and are allowed to thrive in an environment that simulates their natural habitat.

What Can I Do?
Despite the fact that our leaders in Washington refuse to address the sock monkey habitat problem, there is something that ordinary citizens can do. By starting your own sock monkey refuge you can make a difference in the quality of life for sock monkeys in your area. And remember, every sock monkey you invite into your home is one sock monkey who won't be hanging out at the mall cursing and smoking.
